What is in the PDF

  • Six rows each, count the pictures, write the number and color them in
  • Answer key with every count

How to use this printable

Print the PDF on US Letter or A4 paper at actual size (100 percent scale). Give the child a pencil and crayons. On pages 1 and 2, there are six rows on each page. In each row, the child counts the pictures (from 1 to 8), writes the number in the box, and colors the pictures. Use page 3 as the answer key to check the counts. The child practices counting objects up to 8, writing numbers, and fine motor skills through coloring. Work through one row at a time, pointing to each picture as you count together. Let the child write the number and then choose colors to fill in the pictures. The activity is self contained and needs no extra materials.

Teaching tips

  • To make it easier, count the pictures aloud with the child and guide their hand to write the number.
  • To make it harder, ask the child to count the pictures in a different order (for example, from right to left) before writing the number.
  • To reuse the page, place it in a plastic sleeve and have the child use a dry erase marker instead of pencil and crayons.

Questions and answers

Is this worksheet too hard for a 4 year old?

The worksheet counts pictures from 1 to 8, which is suitable for ages 4 to 6. A 4 year old may need help counting and writing, but the pictures are simple and the rows are short.

How should I print the PDF so the rows fit correctly?

Print at 100 percent scale (actual size) on either US Letter or A4 paper. Do not select fit to page or shrink to fit, as that may change the row sizes.

Can my child do this worksheet more than once?

Yes. Print a fresh copy each time, or place the page in a plastic sleeve and use a dry erase marker to write and color, then wipe clean.
