How to use this printable

Print the PDF at actual size on US Letter or A4 paper. Give the child page 2 and a pair of child safe scissors. Show them how to cut along the dotted lines around each picture. After cutting out all 12 pictures, give them page 1 with the shadow boxes. Ask the child to look at each shadow shape and find the matching picture. They can place the picture on the shadow to check the fit. Once they are sure, they glue the picture onto the shadow. Use a glue stick for less mess. The answer key on page 3 helps you check the work. This activity teaches shape recognition, visual matching, and scissor skills. The child also practices hand eye coordination and concentration.

Teaching tips

  • For younger children, cut out the pictures yourself and let them focus on matching and gluing.
  • To make it harder, ask the child to name each picture before gluing it down.
  • Laminate the pages and use velcro dots so the child can reuse the activity many times.
